Frequently Asked Questions & Candle Care

Candle Care:

Trim: Snip your wick! Wicks are happiest when at a very short (1/4 inch) height. Prior to lightening and after your first burn, use your CJ wick trimmer or a pair of scissors to trim the wick to the right length, ensuring a steady, ash-free flame.

Burn: On your first burn be sure to trim your wick first and allow the wax to melt for at least 3 hours, there will be some wax still around but that's normal.

As a note never burn no more than 4 hours.

Upcycle: By popping your vessel in the freezer until the wax is completely frozen, after that your wax it should pop out of your vessel.

If your candle is mushrooming and what does that mean:  If your wax isn't burning enough to keep up with the wick a mushroom wick could occur. Which mean the wick is consuming the wax in accumulation of carbon particles of the wick.  By trimming the black cap off of the wick and curl or bend the tip of the wick to repair the mushroom. Mushroom can also happen due to burning your candle for over a long extended period of time.

If your candle is tunneling: This may happen when burn times are less than the recommended 3 hour time frame.  Which is why the first burn is very important because its a memory burn.  It is also really important to burn your candle for at least two to three hours waiting for the edges to melt and fully pool before extinguishing your candle. If this happens you can also try using a butter knife to scrape the wax from around your vessel.

 Common Dont's of candle care:

  • Never burn more than four hours you may experience mushroom
  • Don't forget to trim your wick
  • Never burn more than four hours you may experience mushroom

  • NEVER leave your candle unattended and around flammable objects

If your candle soots: By trimming your candle and keeping it free of debris each time before burning will help prevent it from sooting.  Please keep in mind whenever dealing with fire it is common that soot will accumulate within the glass, which is totally normal.  Once your candle vessel is cool wipe around the perimeter of your glass with with a little oil and BOOM soot is gone.
